Tile Backer Boards from Tiles Direct trading as Tile Enterprise Ltd http://www.tiles-direct.com/rss/1/productlistings/tile-backer-boards/cat1935
At Tiles Direct, we want every aspect of your tiling project to be a success. So, we don’t just stock a huge variety of tiles - we also have an extensive selection of tiling essentials to choose from, including our range of tile backer boards.

Stocking backer boards in various quantities and widths, you’re sure to find the right option to suit your project, giving you a smooth, easy-to-tile surface for fixing your tiles.

Explore all our options online right now.

Why use tile backer boards?

When you’re installing tiles to floors and walls, you need the surface (substrate) to be flat to ensure the finished surface is smooth and even. But unless you’re tiling a brand new wall, finding a completely flat and level surface is quite a rare thing.

This is where our tile backer boards can help.

Offering an effective and affordable alternative to traditional plywood sheets, tile boards are the saviour of wavy walls and floors. That’s because of these practical properties:

Easy to carry: with a lightweight foam core, modern tile boards don’t weigh as much as plywood, making them easier to manoeuvre on site

Insulating: the rigid foam core also provides excellent thermal and sound insulation

Simple to use: their composition means they can be cut to size using a utility knife, so there’s no need for special cutting tools like a jigsaw. Their smooth surface is tile-ready, meaning you can apply adhesive directly to the board without the need for primer. This can save you time during your project preparation and actual tiling

Waterproofing: perfect for use in wetrooms, bathrooms and kitchens, these tile backers will repel water to protect the walls behind

Impact-resistant: tile backer boards also help to absorb impacts, giving tiled areas added stability

Solid: despite their lightweight profile, tile boards are in fact incredibly strong, giving walls and floors a dimensionally stable surface. Able to bear more weight than plywood or bare plaster walls, tile boards are a must if you’re working with heavy tiles

Versatile: tile backer boards can be applied to any floor or wall surface, fixing into place with screws or a cement-based mortar. Plus, they can be cut down to size to fit into awkward spaces

Which tile board is right for me?

We stock a choice of premium-quality tile backing boards to ensure they deliver optimal performance for tiling projects including bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, bedrooms and living rooms.

They come in a standard 1200mm x 600cm length and width, with a choice of 6mm or 10mm thickness and the option to be attached to stud, plaster or brick walls with appropriate screw fixings.

6mm tile backing boards are commonly used on floors, but you can opt for a thicker board if you want to raise the height of the floor slightly, or if you’re using large format tiles. We also recommend allowing an additional 15-25mm for the tile and adhesive layers.

For walls, a 6mm or 10mm tile backer can be attached, providing a sturdy, smooth surface for tiling. If you’re using heavy, large format tiles on the wall, it’s recommended to opt for the thicker board as they’re able to hold more weight.

Buy tiling boards online for less

To save yourself time on installation and money on your tiling equipment, buy your tile backer boards online at Tiles Direct.
