Royalcore Luxury Interior Design Tips: Tiles, Colours & More

Who says luxury interior design is restricted to the higher echelons of society? Not us!

Thanks to shows like Bridgeton and The Crown, many of us have been inspired to give our homes a little royal treatment. The result is homes that ooze opulence and grandeur regardless of their postcode.

This latest luxury interior design trend has been all over TikTok, as well as Pinterest and Instagram – allow us to introduce you to Royalcore.

What is Royalcore?

Before we dive into how to master this luxury home decor vibe in your own home, let’s lay out the key attributes Royalcore brings to the table.

Much like the Netflix series Bridgerton gave us classic period drama with a modern twist, Royalcore dishes up a refreshing take on much-loved Regency interior design style.

Retaining key features like lavish four-poster beds, intricately carved furniture, velvet drapes and gilded gold pieces, Royalcore goes all-in to deliver a new version of royal interiors that would look right at home in a Disney fairytale.

While there’s said to be a rough timeline between the 5th and 19th Century, Royalcore doesn’t restrict itself to a specific time period or historic accuracy. Instead, this luxury home decor trend is more about creating playful, over-the-top interiors that are hopelessly romantic, whimsical and unapologetically extravagant with a mix of genres.

How to work Royalcore in your home

If you’re in love with luxury interior design that embodies classic aesthetics, Royalcore is definitely for you – but this exuberant style may not work in every room of the house.

With an emphasis on intricate detailing, plush fabrics and bold colours, bedrooms, living rooms and bathrooms can offer the best scope for creating lavish and indulgent spaces primed for relaxation.

Give bathrooms the Royalcore treatment

Modern bathroom design is geared towards escapism, and giving your bathroom the Royalcore treatment could be just what’s needed to create that sumptuous sanctuary away from it all.

To nail the look, a statement claw-foot bathtub standing proud in the centre of the room is a must, with ornate gold taps sitting alongside a traditional style bathroom suite.

On the subject of gold, this should be a prominent accent colour throughout the room, from gold gilded mirrors and picture frames (ideally with vintage oil paintings for added authenticity) to gold accessories and hardware. You could even go for some gorgeous gold luxury tiles for sink splashbacks and shower enclosures.

Alternatively, for walls, polished marble tiles with decorative wallpaper will create striking textural contrasts and a tangible sense of luxury. Finish with an oversized chandelier, fabulously fussy drapes, a lounging chair and vintage trinkets that are far removed from sleek, modern bathroom decor. This will give you a bathroom that transports you from the modern day into a beautiful bygone era every time you step through the door.

Create a palatial boudoir

Bedrooms offer the perfect space to really indulge the grandeur and extravagance of Royalcore in all its glory.

First and foremost, one must have a beautiful and sumptuous bed to sink into – after all, one does need one’s beauty sleep! So, it goes without saying that a key part of embracing Royalcore is to invest in a show-stopping bed.

Whether you go for a gorgeous four-poster with dreamy drapes or a sleigh bed with stylish fabric headboards, the key is to make the bed the centrepiece of your regal decor. Finish the look with lashings of plush fabrics like silk, velvet and chenille in rich jewel tones like purple, red, green and yellow that come with embroidered embellishments and tassels.

Of course, no Royalcore bedroom is complete without that all-important dressing table. French-style designs with intricately carved details and velvet-covered stools look the part, while a gold gilded mirror in a classic style will instantly add that regency touch.

Design a lavish living room

In period dramas, living rooms are typically lavish and luxurious spaces where one greets guests, so naturally giving your living room some royal treatment won’t go amiss.

First, set the scene with a gorgeous colour palette that makes you feel like you’re living in your own Palace of Versailles. Lashings of subtle pastel hues in pink, off white, light blue or pale green work wonderfully with a dash of gold, silver or bronze in the form of fabrics, furniture and fixtures. The end result: an elegant regal living space that exudes luxury.

Speaking of furniture, mix and match genres to your heart’s content using Louis XIV-style chairs, baroque side tables, 18th century chaise longues and more to create a romantic tribute to century-old trends.

Don’t forget that there’s still room to combine modern styles here that can help to soften the look and make sure your Royalcore living room is comfy and stylish.

For instance, take a traditional coffee table with beautiful claw feet and ornate carving and pair it with some simple, contemporary ornaments. Or, introduce modern fabrics to the setting in the form of snuggly throws and cushions that will bring a softness and familiarity to the space.

Finally, complete the look using pictures, mirrors and lighting to add extra glamour and sparkle.

For lighting, if you have the ceiling height, awe-inspiring chandeliers that rival Buckingham Palace will give you a gorgeous, twinkly centrepiece. Alternatively, ornate wall-mounted lamps, vintage-style table lamps and big candelabras will give you that regal edge.

With mirrors and pictures, large gold or dark wooden frames with intricate details will add a sense of grandeur to your living space.  Strategically dotted around the room, these focal features will catch the light and enhance that romantic, majestic feel that Royalcore strives for.
