This means the choices here are endless - so you’re guaranteed to find the perfect tiles for your next home update.
Whether you already have specific ideas in mind or you’re looking for some home interior design inspiration, we’ve curated a fabulous selection of porcelain floor tiles to help you deliver a stunning finish. From cutting-edge patterns and colours to classic styles and shades, whatever designs you have in mind for giving your floors a makeover, we’re confident you’ll find all the ingredients you need right here.
When it comes to practical flooring solutions, tiles have been a go-to option for centuries - but porcelain floor tiles take that practicality to a whole new level. Porcelain is a manmade type of ceramic, making it perfect for floor tiling due to its outstanding durability, strength and customisation options.
Outstanding strength: with a manufacturing process that uses finer, denser clay and higher temperatures and pressure to produce tiles, porcelain floor tiles are harder and stronger than other types of ceramic. Paired with their excellent longevity, this goes towards making them a highly durable flooring option that’s guaranteed to maintain its finish for years to come - even in high-footfall areas.
Excellent water and stain resistance: while porcelain floor tiles can be used throughout your home, areas like kitchens and bathrooms can definitely benefit more when it comes to coping with daily wear and tear. Porcelain tiles are incredibly dense, which makes them extremely resistant to water and a perfectly practical choice for floors in wet areas such as bathrooms. The material’s density also makes it chemical and stain-resistant - perfect for protecting your kitchen floor against everyday spills and suchlike.
Minimal maintenance: installing porcelain tiles in your home could also save you a whole lot of hassle when it comes to upkeep, too. Whether you choose matt non-slip floor tiles or a gloss or satin finish, all of our tiles boast extremely low-maintenance properties - meaning a regular sweep and mop will keep them looking pristine for longer.
Endless versatility: porcelain tiles also boast incredible versatility as a flooring solution, thanks to the huge variety of styles and colours available. From beautiful rustic kitchens with easy-clean wood-effect floors to luxury living rooms with porcelain marble floor tiles, porcelain tiles open the door to all kinds of styling possibilities, even if you’re on a tight budget.
One of the biggest draws of our porcelain floor tiles range is the incredibly diverse choice of colours, sizes, finishes and shapes on offer. This means you’re sure to find your dream porcelain floor tiles, regardless of what your personal specifications may be.
Colour plays an integral role in the overall look and feel of your home updates, so getting just the right shade is a must. Luckily for you, you’ll find a huge amount of colour options at your fingertips to help you get the tone just right.
For a cool and clean look, a pale colour could be just what’s needed. Choose from a vast array of bright white porcelain floor tiles or go for a softer look with creams, beiges, pale greys and so much more. All are guaranteed to deliver a light and airy finish, whichever shade you go for.
Alternatively, use porcelain floor tiles to bring a touch of colour into the mix with bolder hues as the foundation of your interior theme. These could be elegant pastel shades like duck egg blue or more vibrant colours like orange, red and yellow. Whatever colour theme you have in mind, we’re sure to have a tile to match it.
If you want to add bags of character to your floors, this could be achieved using patterned porcelain floor tiles. We have a wide range of patterned options in colourful designs, as well as simple monochrome combinations.
At the other end of the colour scale, we have a bevvy of darker shades that may be more up your street. We’ve covered everything from earthy terracotta hues and moody dark grey stone-look porcelain floor tiles to single colour and patterned black designs, as well as some funky terrazzo-effect tiles and quartz-style options too.
At Tiles Direct we know that the shape and size of your tiles matter too, so you’ll find a wealth of options to choose from.
For a classic tiled floor finish, a simple square tile can be all that’s needed. Supplied in sizes that range from compact 10cm x 10cm up to a whopping 90cm x 90cm and plenty of dimensions in between, including 30cm x 30cm and 60cm x 60cm, we’re confident you’ll find the right size square porcelain floor tiles for your home.
Alternatively, a standard rectangle porcelain floor tile could be the order of the day. With dimensions starting as little as 7.5cm x 15cn going all the way up to 60cm x 120cm, you can buy small or large porcelain floor tiles right here.
Regardless of the size you choose, they offer a slightly more contemporary look and can be installed in various design layouts. For instance, laid in a brick lay design vertically or horizontally, your floor tiles can help to elongate compact or narrow spaces. On the other hand, a grid layout delivers an effortlessly seamless finish that feels modern and chic.
Our choice of shapes don’t stop there though. We also stock a diverse selection of less conventional porcelain floor tile shapes that includes various options like funky hexagon tiles, Victorian penny mosaic sheets and more.
Finally, don’t forget to factor in the finish on your porcelain floor tiles. Within this extensive range you’ll find plenty of options for pulling off a variety of aesthetics.
Polished: for a premium finish, polished porcelain floor tiles will deliver in abundance. With a gorgeous sheen like our pretty Scintilla star tiles, they’ll bounce light around the room and can make a real style statement for kitchens, bathrooms and more. The only thing you’ll need to worry about is giving them a regular clean to keep them shining for years
Matt: our matt finish porcelain floor tiles offer a more understated look and can be perfect for a modern finish. With a slightly duller surface, they won’t reflect as much light around the space, but they do bring a wonderful sense of texture and depth. Plus, the matt glaze won’t show up water marks and smears as easily as polished tiles, so they can provide a low-maintenance alternative
Textured: you’ll also find an array of textured finishes with our porcelain floor tiles collection that are designed to bring even more texture and a tactile touch underfoot. Whether it’s pretty penny mosaics or a stone-look style, they can bring better grip - not to mention oodles of charm and character wherever they’re laid
Non-slip: if you want to further protect your home against unnecessary slips and trips, choosing a floor tile with an anti-slip finish is the way to go. Perfect for use in bathrooms, kitchens, hallways and even outside, these tiles beautifully combine safety and functionality with style
Wood effect: you can enjoy the beauty of natural wooden floors throughout your home with all the practical perks of modern wood effect tiles. Made from hard porcelain, wood effect tiles provide excellent resistance to water, scratches and impacts to give your floors extra longevity. From rustic, pale wood-look floor tiles through to designs with rich, dark hues, you can choose from a broad range of realistic looking finishes and shades that cater to a variety of interior styles
Onyx-effect: bring instant elegance to your floors with dreamy onyx-effect tiles made from hardwearing, water-resistant porcelain. Their realistic onyx-effect finish will transform floors to create a luxury backdrop for your interior design scheme at a more affordable price than you'll find with genuine onyx tiles.
Porcelain tiles are a trusted choice for kitchen and bathroom floors, but their use doesn’t have to stop there. They work brilliantly throughout the home, providing a practical, durable and timeless flooring solution for bedrooms, hallways, living rooms and more.
Still not convinced? Well, let us give you a little food for thought on how you can use porcelain floor tiles in every room of the house to deliver floors that will look beautiful for years to come.
Kitchens: from heavy footfall to daily spills, kitchens need to be kitted out with a robust flooring choice to handle everything that home life has to throw at them (quite literally in some cases). Luckily, covering your floors with porcelain tiles is the ideal solution from both a practical and aesthetic perspective. As one of the busiest rooms in modern homes, we’d recommend opting for shades and styles that won’t show up every crumb or spec of dirt - like those in our Mix It range, that feature a mottled pattern. Alternatively, go bold with your design, using intricate patterns and colours like the Harmony hexagon floor tiles that also bring bags of character to functional spaces
Bathrooms: similar to kitchens, your bathroom floors need to be able to withstand exposure to water and a lot of use, making porcelain floor tiles the perfect companion. Wet floors are inevitable in bathrooms, so a non-slip porcelain tile could be the way to go. With an anti-slip matt finish, these tiles give better grip underfoot without compromising on style - an essential consideration for families with little ones splashing around in the bath every night.
Living rooms: if you’re looking for a more continental feel with your living room interiors, stripping back your carpets and laying porcelain floor tiles is a must. However, a tiled floor doesn’t have to look and feel cold. Opting for warm hues like wood-effect tiles or some earthy natural stone-style versions will ensure your lounge feels homely and welcoming - especially with the addition of a statement rug. Alternatively, let your living room feel like a luxury haven with beautiful Carrara marble floor tiles. Whatever style you choose, living room tiles also bring a practical touch as any drink spills can be quickly mopped up without leaving a stain behind.
Bedrooms: tiles may not be your first thought for bedroom floors, but like living rooms they can deliver a sleek and low-maintenance finish in this important room. By favouring porcelain tiles on the floor over carpets, your floors will stay looking pristine whatever comes their way - be that split coffee on a lazy Sunday morning or nail varnish. Beyond these practical benefits, using floor tiles can open up a whole world of interior design possibilities. From cool, calming grey concrete-look floor tiles to playful patterns, whatever grand ideas you have for creating your perfect bedroom, tiles can help you achieve it.
Hallways: as the gateway into your home, hallways require careful consideration when it comes to flooring to handle muddy footprints and more day in, day out. For a hardwearing solution that won’t require a lot of upkeep, put your faith in porcelain floor tiles. Whether you’re looking to bring a vintage-feel with encaustic-style tiles or something more contemporary, using tiles in your hallway just makes sense.
Home offices: it doesn’t matter if you’re carving out a quiet corner in an open plan area or a dedicated home office, your decor choices can have a direct impact on how the space feels to work in. In order to get your home office design off on the right foot so it’s primed for productivity, the floors are a good place to start. As the foundation that ties the whole room (or area) together, we’d suggest opting for a neutral colour tile that can be enhanced with colourful walls and furniture to bring a little personality into the mix.
Gardens, patios and driveways: if you want to continue enjoying the beauty and practical benefits of porcelain floor tiles outside of your home too, you're in luck. Many of our porcelain floor tiles are suitable for use outdoors, giving you frost-resistant, anti-slip and incredibly hard-wearing outdoor tiles that are perfect for giving patios, garden pathways and driveways a smart, practical and low-maintenance finish.
When it comes to buying porcelain floor tiles in the UK, we offer an extensive selection of styles, sizes, colours and finishes. For you, this means the choices really are endless - guaranteeing to help you achieve your dream home design. Whether you’re updating your kitchen, bathroom or bedroom, we’re confident you’ll find what you’re looking for here.
If you need a nudge in the right direction in terms of inspiration, we’ll help you along your way with a few style ideas below to get your creative juices flowing.
Tried and tested style: if you’re looking for porcelain bathroom tiles to create a timeless style, you really can’t go wrong with classic white porcelain floor tiles. These ultra-white tiles will brighten up any room, with a tried and tested look that never seems to fade in popularity - especially when it comes to bathrooms. Available in polished or matt finishes, these tiles can easily adapt to both modern and traditional interiors, whether you’re looking to achieve a minimalist all-white aesthetic or something a little more eclectic and colourful.
The gift of space: does your room feel a little on the small side? Trick the eye by opting for large porcelain floor tiles to create the illusion of space. Smaller tiles create a ‘busy’ pattern and can make small spaces appear cluttered. In contrast, large porcelain floor tiles have fewer grout lines to distract the eye, so even the most modest of areas can appear larger (especially with light-coloured tiles). Whatever style you have in mind, our range of large format tiles are available in a variety of sizes that go up to 60cm x 120cm, so you’re sure to find the perfect fit for your home.
Going grey: grey interiors never seem to go out of style and are primed for delivering a cool and contemporary look in your home. From bathrooms to bedrooms, we have a beautiful choice of grey porcelain floor tiles that are begging to be explored. Why not give bathrooms a moody atmosphere with beautiful dark grey Shark Tiles or keep things light and airy with cement-style porcelain floor tiles? Both will deliver a stunning finish that’s practical and always on-trend. Of course, if you want something a little more characterful, get creative and use our ultra-chic hexagon tiles, which come in a variety of shades and patterns so you can create a unique floor design.
Unrivalled opulence: if it’s glamour you’re after, our rich, black porcelain floor tiles are guaranteed to add a touch of luxury to any home. These polished porcelain floor tiles boast an ultra-reflective glossy surface that means these tiles are the perfect finish for any contemporary kitchen floor. Paired with high-gloss cabinets and state-of-the-art appliances, pulling off a sleek and stylish kitchen couldn’t be easier. Alternatively, give bathrooms, bedrooms and dining rooms a dramatic look with a little added sparkle using Star City Negro tiles that beautifully catch the light.
Marvel with marble: if you’re looking for something a little more natural, you’d be forgiven for thinking porcelain isn’t an option. However, our huge range of tiles are available in a variety of realistic natural finishes, including elegant faux-marble stone. From delicate mosaics to large-format tiles, our marble-effect porcelain tiles range is packed full of options for achieving luxurious home updates. Whether you want classic or a more cutting-edge feel, versatile marble-look tiles will give you the chance to create marvellous marble floors without breaking the bank.
The wonders of wood: have you got grand designs of rustic-style interiors with wooden floors, but you’re worried about the cost and maintenance that comes with them? Don’t be. We offer a gorgeous selection of porcelain floor tiles with a wood effect finish. They not only look incredibly realistic, but are also very practical - making them ideal for use in kitchens. With our porcelain floor tiles you’ll find options galore, whether you want a vintage style with matt finish distressed wood-look tiles or a glossy finish Yale tile that replicates polished wood. This means you can enjoy the wonders of wood with porcelain tiles that look the part and will last for years with very little maintenance.
Pattern power: let your floors be the star of the show by harnessing the power of patterned porcelain floor tiles. From colourful hexagons found in our Lily Pad range to pretty vintage designs like those found in our Victorian tiles collection, patterns can be a great way to break up large floors or add small elements of character without it feeling overwhelming.
To get a professional finish we’d always recommend getting a reputable tiler in to do the job - particularly if you’re fitting large format porcelain floor tiles, as these can be a little trickier to install. However, this doesn’t mean you can’t do it yourself. If you feel like you’re up for the challenge, we’ve put together some helpful hints to get the job done right.
Get the measure of the job: like most DIY jobs, accurate measurements are essential and, when it comes to installing porcelain tiles, it’s no different. The first job on your list is to measure up your floor to calculate exactly how many tiles you’ll need. When measuring your floor, do the process at least twice to make sure you have the exact dimensions nailed down. Next, simply multiply the floor width by the length to calculate how many square metres of tiles you’ll need. Of course, you also need to account for any breakages and tile cuts, so order at least 10% more than your total square metre calculation. If you need any help, all our product listings feature an online tile calculator that will work out how many tiles you need and the price.
Don’t skip the preparation: before you begin to lay your porcelain floor tiles, you’ll need to prep the area. This means removing any furniture as well as ensuring the surface is level and clean. Depending on the surface you're tiling onto, the level of preparation to achieve a level floor will vary. For instance, if you're going over existing tiles or concrete you may only need to apply a layer of primer to help with adhesion. However, if you're facing an uneven floor, it may be worthwhile applying a self-levelling screed or tile backer boards beforehand to get the surface completely flat. Similarly, if you're tiling onto wooden floorboards, you'll need to fix any loose boards and apply tile backer boards to get the surface level and more importantly allow for any movement to prevent tiles from cracking.
Mock up your floor design: the last part of your pre-preparation is to do a mock-up of your floor layout before you stick the tiles down for good. This provides you with the chance to play around with layout patterns and work out tile cuts before you commit. If you’re unsure which pattern to go for, you’ll find various pattern and layout designs here.
Commit to the fix: with prep and layouts decided, you can now commit to fixing your porcelain tiles to the floor. First you need to measure the room to find the central point (where the width and length cross over) to lay your first tile. Then lay the tiles working out to the edges and corners of the room, leaving the door area as the last part you tile. To attach them to the floor, apply a small amount of adhesive at a time using a notched trowel. Press the tile gently into the adhesive and check it’s flat using a spirit level, using tile spacers between each one to get straight, even rows.
Seal your tiles with grout: after the tile adhesive has dried you’re ready to seal the porcelain tiles with grout. Use a grout float to apply the solution over the gaps of the tiles and press it into the voids to get a complete seal. Once dried, use a dual-purpose sponge and clean water to wipe away the grout residue - you may need to do this several times.
As with any tiling project, you’ll need the right tools for the job - find out exactly what you need right here.
