Beyond Black & White: Taking Monochrome Interiors to the Max

Monochrome interiors offer the chance to use one single colour to create a dramatic look that demands to be noticed. When we envisage monochrome interior design, many of us will instantly think of black and white designs, yet this isn’t your only option.

This year, we’re seeing monochromatic interiors take a whole new direction, using bright, bold and vibrant colours to make an impact. When done right, this trend can be the ideal way to achieve that interior design magazine look you’ve been craving – and to give you a nudge in the right direction, we’ve put together some monochrome tile styling tips to inspire you to embrace this powerful look in your home.

Embrace the awesomeness of avocados

Now, we love avocados as much as the next person for their super tasty, nutritious goodness, but this super fruit (yes, it is a fruit if you were wondering) is set to give us even more joy as it’s tipped as a much-loved hue for 2020.

No longer just associated with insipid 80s bathroom suites, avocado green is getting a modern makeover and is primed for packing some punch to your monochrome colour scheme. Pick out a funky shaped tile in this vibrant shade and pair it with brass fixtures and fittings to deliver a standout bathroom that feels like a green oasis.

Create a calm haven with blue

The idea of using a single colour in one room can seem a little overbearing for some, but just stick with us for a moment as we explore the beauty of blue monochrome interiors that may just convince you otherwise.

Not only is Classic Blue Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2020 (making it an instant must-have shade, of course), this vivid yet calming colour is primed for delivering a cosy, welcoming haven in any room of the house – this could be your bathroom, bedroom or living room.

The key is to blend different textures in the same shade that will instantly add interest and character to single-colour decor. We just love the idea of injecting an art-deco vibe with elongated quatrefoil-shaped tiles in a vibrant electric blue like those pictured above, then finishing the look with flourishes of gold to give it a regal air.

Go cute with all-pink interiors

As discussed in one of our recent posts, pink kitchens are now a thing (yes, really) and if you fancy giving your home a cute makeover that’s bursting with colour, monochromatic pink could be just what you need.

In contemporary settings, a hot fuchsia pink can really make a striking style statement, with everything from pink coloured wall tiles to soft fabrics championing this playful hue. However, you don’t have to go brash and bold to get the monochrome pink finish. Mixing darker shades with soft pastels and everything in between will ensure the space feels definitively pink yet understated.

Create brooding interiors with reds and purples

Rich, jewel tones in burgundy red and dark aubergine are primed for giving monochromatic interior design a modern and moody edge – but let us warn you that this dramatic look definitely isn’t for the faint-hearted.

In order for these darker colour palettes to work as a single colour interior you need to fully commit and really love the colour itself (obviously). Ideally suited for evening relaxation areas like living rooms or bedrooms, you can transform sparse, characterless spaces into sensual, snug havens in no time.

For bedrooms, why not experiment with ox blood red coloured tiles on the floors and deep red walls to bring a brooding sense to your slumber space? Accessorised with dark wood and black accents and a myriad of different textures, the result will be a tactile space that feels relaxing and cosy from the moment you walk in.

If you love the idea of bold monochromatic interiors that break the mould from minimalist black and white, then now’s the time to get started.

Whether you fancy pretty pink in your kitchen, purple in your living room or our favourite avocado green in your bathroom, we have a huge variety of brightly coloured wall tiles as well as coloured floor tiles to help you achieve just the look you want. And if you want to check out a tile before you commit to a specific colour, you can order a small tile sample online for just £1.99 – it really is that simple!
