Trend Focus: Discover the Hottest Colour Trends for 2023
Colour plays a powerful role in interior design, helping us to express our personality and build strong connections with our homes through nature, creativity and experimentation.
With 2023 creeping ever closer, we thought it was high time we took a sneak peak at what next year will have in store when it comes to those all-important interior design colour trends.
From soothing purples to glowing golden tones, we’ll be taking a look at which colour trends we can expect to be all the rage in 2023.
Pale purple hues
Despite life returning to relative normality without pandemic restrictions, many homeowners are still clinging to the concept of calmness within their homes.
This is where pale purple hues like lavender and violet are coming into their own. Taking the lead from last year’s Pantone colour, Veri Peri, 2023 is likely to see more soft, soothing purple tones like WGSN’s Digital Lavender or Dulux’s Violet Dream bringing a sense of serenity to the home.
How to use purple
When it comes to incorporating light purple into your home, this colour can be surprisingly versatile. For a subtle look, pair it with cream and white palettes, or go bold by pairing it with deep jewel tones like teal blue.
Right at home in bedrooms and living rooms, this calming palette can help you to create a relaxing space for socialising or for sleeping.
Glowing gold tones
With Wild Wonder chosen as Dulux’s top colour of the year for 2023, we’re set to see plenty of warm gold tones appearing in interior design in the coming year.
Inspired by natural colour palettes, colours like this one blend golden yellows such as those found in wheat fields with earthy greens to create a complex yellow that can be used to bring warmth and character throughout the home.
How to use golden yellow
For maximum impact, we love the idea of using this golden hue as your primary shade – incorporating simple wooden and terracotta accents to accentuate the natural, organic feel.
In living spaces, it makes the ideal foundational colour for painted walls and can be set alongside darker shades and rich textures to give it added depth.
Elsewhere, smooth tiles in soft, golden hues – like our sandy-coloured Kit Kat tiles – are ideal for introducing texture and character to kitchens and bathrooms.
Riveting reds
With a focus on creativity and artisanal vibes, we anticipate that red shades will become a popular choice for stylish, sophisticated and exotic decor themes.
Sherwin Williams has put its name to a few different reddish hues for the coming year which can be used to create a variety of different looks.
Some shades, like Redend Point, seem to take their inspiration from earthy browns and rustic terracotta tones, and are perfect for pairing with pale peachy hues to achieve that all-organic vibe.
In contrast, other shades like their Toile Red feel more luxurious – with berry shades pulling through which will be right at home in a sophisticated living-dining space or a sumptuous bedroom design.
How to use red shades
The richness of red is ideal for carving out a characterful living space, but the finished look will of course depend on your own personal tastes and the colour you choose.
To capture that rustic, artisanal feel, choose a matt red with brown and orange undertones. Paired with plenty of indoor plants and raw wooden finishes, you’ll have a homely, cosy vibe all year round.
For a high-end aesthetic, deep berry tones are the way to go. For added texture, mix up wall coverings using shiny burgundy wall tiles against teal for a dramatic and stylish interior for kitchens, bathrooms and beyond.
Beautiful blues
With nods to nature continuing to be a popular theme among interior design trends for 2023, it’s not surprising to see blue as a mainstay for the coming year – delivering cool, calming aesthetics.
So far, it seems colour experts are pinning their preferences on a mix of shades – but many of the darker shades are making way for lighter, brighter blues such as cornflower and sky blue which are primed for delivering tranquil, serene interiors as we head into a new year.
How to use blue tones
With a close association with water and nature, blue works brilliantly in bathrooms and kitchens.
For a vintage vibe, crackle glaze metro or artisan-style tiles will give you that perfectly imperfect look to make your bathroom feel completely unique.
Alternatively, you can give your kitchen or bathroom a luxurious makeover that celebrates the beauty of nature with striking blue onyx tiles that are impossible to ignore. Partnered with white elsewhere, you can create a timelessly beautiful white-blue aesthetic.
So, there you have it – the hottest colour trends for 2023 as it stands Of course, we’re sure there will be more colours to throw into the mix, especially once Pantone announces its colour at the start of December.
